Sterling design, Dove gray and attention to detail create serene sophistication in the living room of this Connecticut home overlooking Long Island Sound. “I didn’t want a beachy home so we went with dark floors and classic details,” says the owner, architectural designer Louise Brooks.
Blue and white glamour in a living room. Although you occasionally see delicate arm chairs in traditional living rooms, the emphasis when it comes to seating is really on comfortable, sit-back-and-relax pieces. Traditional roll arm or William Birch sofas like the ones in this room from Villa Skovly are right at home, and more often than not they`re loaded with throw pillows to up the comfort level.
Farrow & Ball’s “Skimming Stone” is painted on the walls, while the wood comes clean in the venerable paint company’s “All White.” Silver-gray cocktail and side tables pick up the thread of color from the room’s gray-and-white striped Elizabeth Eakins rug, while the furniture remains calm in white upholstery fabrics. Even the accessories on the fireplace wall’s shelves are pared down for importance. Most notable is the pair of antique lanterns on the middle shelves.
Sand plus sea–glass cozy beach style. Sandy colors of light beige create this beachy living–room ooze comfort. Notice how the rug and walls plus couch also coffee table are all tones of the same hue, generating a ´soft‐harmony´. ´Contrasting’ sea green plus white components are added in the form of throw‐pillows also wall‐art set upon a ornamental ledge.
